History
Caer-Dineval is a solitary small town, located at the top of a sheer
cliff, a few miles away from Caer-Konig. Travelers bound for
Caer-Konig must travel through Caer-Dineval, though without much to
offer visitors, it has become a pass-through town.
Caer-Dineval's main tavern, The Uphill Climb has been hit with hard times, with little in the way of food, and less in the way of drink, they typically send adventurous types to the castle, or charge outrageous prices for rooms, hoping they either gain entry to the Caer, or leave altogether.
Life has become a lot harder now with the sun being gone so long, the lakes are freezing over, and the hunters are having a hard time finding prey. Until things can be resolved at the castle, life will continue to be dire in this small town.
View From the Road
For most travelers, the journey to Caer-Dineval involves a simple
ferry ride across Lac Dinneshire, and a trudge uphill through the
town. Nowadays however, the journey must be made on foot, a perilous
trek up a massive cliffside.
After hours of cold winds,
uphill travel, and little to see, travelers are met with a sad view of
a rundown town.

Economy
While there is little to no traffic to or from Caer-Dineval, leaving most trade a stagnant endeavor, they manage to fish enough Knucklehead trout to feed the town and have some left over to trade with towns like Easthaven or Lonelywood. These larger towns may use the fish to feed their people, or trade it further west, though as long as Caer-Dineval gets the coin and supplies they need, it makes no difference to them.
Scrimshaw, small carved fish or whale bones used as decoration, or ornate fish hooks helps some of the townsfolk not only pass the time, but bring a few more coins into the pockets of the people, often being bought by traveling traders who revel in the ornate works.
Atmosphere and Architecture
As the oldest settlement in Ten Towns, Caer-Dineval has some of the oldest buildings in the dale. Chief among these is Castle Diveval or the Caer, a 400 year old, crumbling castle sitting high up on the hilltop looming over the broken town of Caer-Dineval.
Many of the homes here are run down and drafty, and the only Inn, Dinev's Rest, has closed due to the lack of visitors, and is in a state of great disrepair. The newest building in Caer-Dineval is the Uphill Climb, the tavern that was built only a few decades ago by Roark the dwarven proprietor.
The atmosphere of the town is bleak, many of the people here are worried that the corruption at the Caer has gone too far, and they are all doomed to eventually starve to death if things do not change soon. Things were not exactly great before, but now that leadership has all but disappeared for the town, the town feels desolate and abandoned. Many of the people here are thinking it may be time to leave, and try their luck in another town.
